London’s music scene is about to combust when two groups of young musicians and artists, who struggle with ambition and old resentments, are set on a collision course. As the band Reverse begins to rise within the indie scene and Without You struggle to get on their feet again, secrets, rivalries, and complicated romances threaten to tear apart the fragile bonds between the two bands.
In the middle of this chaos is South Korean immigrant Eun Jiwon, who believes he has finally found freedom in London—that is, until he develops a disastrous crush on his flatmate, Alex Aitken, who also happens to be the new drummer of Reverse. Jiwon definitely didn’t expect to get pulled into the rivalry of his friends, Alice, Oliver and Omar, especially since Omar is obsessed with trash-talking James Sandwell, Reverse’s vocalist and the former friend who abandoned him years ago. But now, Jiwon has to hate the band, and that means hating Alex too.
In a scenario of cramped flats and chaotic encounters, Jiwon searches for belonging while trying to ignore his stupid crush on Alex for the sake of his friends. But that’s hard when Omar clings to resentment as the only thing keeping his dreams alive, and Quang Nong, Reverse’s devoted groupie, seems to annoy him all the time. Among this mess, quiet Oliver Moore finds himself trapped between the loyalty to his friends and his secret affair with Samuel, the actual mastermind behind Reverse. James, though, can only hope his struggles to maintain the image of success while everything threatens to fall apart don’t show.
Out of Tune is a queer new adult contemporary romance filled with indie music chaos, complicated friendships, rival bands, forbidden relationships, messy emotions, and slow-burning romance.
